Maine Families has 3 certified lactation counselors on staff, and you do not need to be enrolled in our program to utilize this free service. Childbirth Classes:
Adventure Awaits Birth Services: 1-603-781-5845
This in-person class (offered in locations in Machias, Ellsworth, and Bangor) will cover the essentials of childbirth with the goal of feeling prepared and confident for your birth experience. Topics will include: Biology and mechanics of birth; Comfort measures; Role of the partner; Planning for postpartum. This 4-day class will be offered 4 times a year: See her Facebook page for the latest class schedules. The best time to take this class is after 32 weeks of pregnancy. The cost is $100-$150, but scholarships are available.

Support for prenatal moms on medication-assisted recovery or who have a high-risk pregnancy, or moms with newborns that have medical complications. Program can provide home visiting nurses to work with families to help address their immediate needs and identify & facilitate on-going supports

For mom’s on medication-assisted recovery and have a child in the NICU. With prior authorization from their local treatment provider, mom’s can receive courtesy doses during their stay in Bangor while their child receives medical treatment. - Answer your questions and make sure you are part of the team caring for your baby.
- Provide care in a baby-friendly setting.
- Work with you to develop a plan for birth control after your baby is born, if you would like.

Navigation and support for expectant and new parents, caregivers, and families living with substance use disorder in Washington and Hancock counties, Maine. PROSPER responds to your needs as a pregnant person or new parent with Substance Use Disorder. You, your infant, and your support system (friends, partner, relatives) can count on compassionate, person-centered navigation, mentoring, education, training, care coordination, advocacy, referrals, and overall supports. We serve expectant and new parents (and their support systems) living in Hancock and Washington counties. We work to prevent stigmatization, discrimination, criminalization, and marginalization of women seeking treatment to benefit themselves and their infants. We walk with you through the experience of pregnancy and as a new parent to ensure that you feel supported and prepared for parenthood. Affordable to no-cost lodging for families of children receiving treatment in the hospital. The Ronald McDonald Houses provide many of the comforts of home, such as fully equipped kitchens, laundry facilities, recreation areas, private guest rooms and more. (A referral from a medical social worker is required). Location is 654 State Street in Bangor.

Perinatal Behavioral Health Support: 207-661-4455
A statewide virtual program supporting pregnant and postpartum women experiencing behavioral health challenges. This service is statewide, 100% virtual, and tailored to support individuals who are pregnant, postpartum (up to 52 weeks), or have experienced perinatal loss. Program components include:
- Psychotherapy provided by a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) specializing in perinatal mental health
- Medication management provided by a psychiatric nurse practitioner
- Virtual services – accessible from anywhere in Maine
- Insurance accepted – commercial and MaineCare
- Accepts referrals from organizations across Maine
