ALEXANDER
Alexander Art Trail (SF)
Hand-carved outdoor sculptures along the trail and a painted rock exhibit.
BAILEYVILLE
Ice Skating Rink (Seasonal)
Every winter the Woodland Parks and Recreation Department sets up an outdoor ice skating rink for families once the weather turns cold enough to keep it frozen.
BARING
Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge (SF)
The main trail off Charlotte Road is paved and an easy walk.
BEALS
Seaduck Point Preserve
Southwest end of Beals Island. 168 Acre preserve with bogs, forest trails and beachfront, including a 3/4 mile trail that leads to a sand beach and tiny island where ospreys nest.
CALAIS
Ice Skating Rink (Seasonal)
Located on Main Street, the Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition has purchased an ice rink for families to use once the cold weather settles in.
St. Croix Island Historic Site (SF)
Paved walking trail.
Waterfront Walkway (SF)
Gravel path along the river.
CHERRYFIELD
Weald Bethel Trail System
Easy walking trails, picnic area. Located at the Maine Seacoast Mission Cherryfield campus.
EAST MACHIAS
Winter sledding at Scott’s Hill
A protected two-acre hill for children to sled down on snowy days. Parking lot on site.
EASTPORT
Waterfront walkway (SF)
Paved walkway along the water.
EDMUNDS
Cobscook Bay State Park (PG) ($)
Picnic area, playground, easy walking trail.
Tide Mill Farm
Families are always welcome to visit the farm and garden.
GRAND LAKE STREAM
Dawn Marie Beach Path
1/4 mile walking trail to beautiful undeveloped beach on Wabassus Lake.
Musquash Esker Trail
1.4 mile (2.8 round trip) easy walking trail through forest to Big Musquash stream.
Trail To Tomorrow
0.6 mile loop educational trail with interpretive signs along the path.
HARRINGTON
Harrington Family Health Center (SF)
Paved walking track and pirate ship playhouse.
INDIAN TOWNSHIP
Local bike and ATV trail (SF)
Paved trail starts at the bridge.
JONESPORT
Sandy River Beach
Large family friendly sand beach.
LUBEC:
Cobscook Shores – New!
A system of eleven parklands dispersed along the southern and western shores of Cobscook Bay from Whiting to Lubec. The Parklands offer public access and recreational use including walking, picnicking, hiking, biking, camping and paddling in Cobscook Bay. Restrooms available at each park.
Mowry Beach (SF)
Boardwalk, and sandy beach.
Quoddy Head State Park (SF) ($)
Bog Trail along boardwalk through peat bog. Signs explain the special plant life, which includes carnivorous plants like Venus Fly Traps!
Red Point Park (SF)
Located off of County Road in Lubec, Red Point is a new park system with may trails and some amenities. They have several stroller friendly paths and even offer access to a free stroller for families to borrow. Restrooms and picnic tables are onsite as well.
MACHIAS
Middle River Park
Easy walking trail, grassy area and picnic tables. Pets are welcome.
Sledding hill and snowshoeing on trails available in the winter months.
MACHIASPORT
Long Point Preserve
With a rich history, this scenic point in Machiasport boasts incredible natural beauty with sweeping views to the islands of outer Machias Bay. The trail begins along a dirt road before leading to a more rustic path that eventually loops around the rugged peninsula, totaling just over three miles. Spot seals, bald eagles, osprey, songbirds in the surrounding forest or shorebirds feeding in adjacent mudflats. Access via East Side Road, Machiasport or click here for directions.
MILBRIDGE
Milbridge Commons Park and Garden (SF)
Crushed gravel walking trail, and edible gardens. A children’s play area is planned for 2021.
PERRY
Gleason Cove Park (PG)
Gravel beach, grassy area, swing set.
PLEASANT POINT
Sipayik Trail
Paved, easy 2 mile trail, stone beach.
ROQUE BLUFFS
Roque Bluffs State Park (PG) ($)
Easy walking trails, grassy picnic area, children’s playground.
Downeast Sunrise Trail System (SF)
Wide crushed stone pathways that run from Pembroke to Ellsworth. Check out their website and map to find your nearest trail entrance is.
